Domain Renewal

Having and owning a fine and unique domain name is the best, because it is your intellectual property. But one thing you need to aware is, you do not own any single domain name forever. You only own whatever domain name for certain period like one year, but some people take the ownership for 10 years.

Owning domain name is actually buying it and registering it on internet, however the registration is not forever. Your must renew it when your contract of ownership is about to expire, otherwise other people might take over your domain name. It is possible to happen because you actually lose the right to own it, and by that it opens to public to buy to get the right.

I heard people saying that you can buy and register a domain for 100 years, but i don't believe such thing until i found such domain registrars myself. It is irrelevant and not worth to say owning domain for 100 years in one time, what will happen is they need to pay 10 times renewal in advance for 10 years of each. It's a burden to the payee like yourself and I, you are losing money even before you making money from the domain name!!

I highly recommend registering domain name more than one year, but in considerable years. For a big company you may look for 10 years, but for an individual just go for 1 year. This is to avoid any unnecessary expenses.

Many of websites or blog are being blacklist because of its name alone, what happen if you register a domain for 10 years and get blacklist? You cannot retrieve your money back! You might not know what will happen in the future, so the proper action is to take the precaution. Because you will be get blacklist not only by domain name but also by contents if your contents is bad and threatening. So just take 1 year period to renew, and don't worry if you forget to renew it. All domain registrars have the automatic reminders to renew before it expires.

By this way your domain name will stay safe, it can be renew automatically by "auto-domain-renewal" system. You may forget the hassle to renew, as long as you set aside some amount of money to pay. However the renewal process must be done before the expire date or during the expire date. What happen if you fail to renew your domain name? Even if you forget to renew it on time you still can retrieve it. The domain name will go through 3 stages before it completely available to other.

First stage: On the very early stage it will be put under "grace period", it can be a short period or long period depends on domain registrar. Please refer to your terms and condition about that. In the early stage all the function on your blog or website will be blocked.

Second stage: The domain registrar will send you another reminder and advice to renew, they will put it under redemption period waiting for you to redeem. The standard time length is 30-days to redeem, please avoid this stage as possible as you can. During this time all the data and function on your blog or website will totally stop from working. You need to do everything from beginning at this stage. Please avoid this from happen, because the price to redeem is not the same of renewal fee. The price is a bit high due to some penalties, but at least you have it back.

Final stage: Reaching this stage means you totally lose your ownership, all you can do is to wait it to be deleted under pending delete. Anybody can buy your domain name at this stage, it also goes to auction market. The slightest chance now is praying that no one buy the domain, and then you can start all the process again with the previous domain name you bought.

No one wants this to happen, to prevent this from happen you must choose only the best domain name. Find something significant and unique to you, and then make sure to auto renewal to you. Here is one simple useful advise "don't use sensitive word for domain name and contents, you will be easily get complain and get banned or blacklisted". Sometime just make it simple and easy..
